According to the World Health Organization, more than 4.5 billion people lack adequate access to essential health services. This crisis is further compounded by a projected shortage of 18 million health workers, including 6.4 million physicians, by 2030. These staggering numbers underscore the urgent need for immediate action to address this global healthcare deficit. By training and inspiring the next generation of physicians to serve underserved communities, we can drive transformative progress toward achieving global health equity.
As international medical students and graduates, we are integral members of a global community of approximately 2 million individuals, all united by the shared dream of becoming physicians. Our motivation to fulfill our life’s calling is deeply rooted in our diverse values, cultures, experiences, and circumstances. Each of us hold a firm commitment to our chosen path, driven by altruistic ideals. It is our profound compassion and empathy for those suffering and in need of care that fuels our sense of purpose.
As a global collective of medical students and graduates, we embrace our responsibility to tackle global health challenges. By leveraging our expertise and collaborating with medical schools, organizations, hospitals, and NGOs, we can make a meaningful impact on vulnerable populations. Identifying areas for maximum impact, we are committed to using our skills, resources, and network to empower underserved communities.
Our mission aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, supporting efforts to achieve universal healthcare coverage and advance global health equity.
Throughout history, transformative leaders and movements have shaped our world, offering hope to the vulnerable and inspiring change. These movements were driven by individuals who recognized global suffering and took meaningful action.
As IMGs, we have a unique opportunity to stand in solidarity to selflessly serve those in need. Let us unite under the principles of the Hippocratic Oath, answering the universal call to action and embracing our roles as agents of global health equity.
